As It Should Be (blurb)

When Jacqueline walked out of the apartment she shared with Michael, it was because she was ready for a family and he wasn’t. Neither of them knew she was pregnant, but it wouldn’t have made a difference to her. Michael had made it clear that he wasn’t going to put anything or anyone ahead of building his real estate business.

Now, three years later, she’s back at the front door with twins and asking a favor. Marquia and Michael Jr. are the spitting image of their father—and they need him.

Will he help them? Can Jacqui afford the price he’s going to demand? Will everything work out the way it should? Or will she leave once again broken-hearted?

A Home for Her Heart (blurb)

Trey had been watching Regina for a long time, and he wanted her with every passing day that they worked together. But he’d also seen the tell-tale signs that something was off about her relationship with the boyfriend who often picked her up from work or visited in the office. The man was possessive, but not in a good way. There was abuse, of that Trey was certain.

When Gina didn’t show up for work, Trey knew something was wrong. He got her address from the personnel file and arrived at her house to find her battered and bruised and distraught. Michael, her abusive live-in boyfriend, had beaten her and taken their child.

Getting the baby back was only the first step to rescuing Gina from an abusive relationship. Convincing her that she was lovely and loveable would take slightly more effort. But Trey was convinced that he could do it—after all he was in love with her and willing to try anything to make her happy.

Follow this couple as they deal with her demons, her ex-boyfriend, and a growing love that was bound to transform both of their lives.

Book blurb:

Ramona’s life was about to change. Not only was she going on a dream vacation instead of to a work-related conference as the assistant to her company’s Chief Financial Officer, she was unknowingly going to be met there by a man she’s been fantasizing about for years. Except for the fact that her boss has kept his feelings a secret and coordinated this ruse as a way of getting them alone, what could possibly go wrong?

Will this beautiful, cinnamon-skinned, natural hair wearing assistant be willing to start a secret affair with her sandy-haired, hazel eyed, white boss? The no-fraternizing regulations make the idea risky enough without adding the interracial component to complicate the potential relationship. What will people think if they find out—that she slept her way into the position she is more than qualified to hold? It wouldn’t be the first time an attractive black woman has been viewed that way.

Caleb has been in love with Ramona for as long as she has been secretly dreaming about him. He’s guessed her feelings without revealing his, but all the cards are about to be put on the table. He’ll gamble that they’ll have this opportunity to take their working relationship to an intimate level.

But will he win?

It didn’t take Diana Thomas long to understand that the sexy, wealthy, and handsome businessman André Markinson wasn’t giving any consideration to the engagement ring on her left hand. He wanted her and was determined to win her affection. While she denied their attraction and was loyal to her fiancé, she couldn’t escape the truth for very long.

On her 30th birthday—that her fiancé totally forgot about—André surprised her with a party in her honor and made his intentions perfectly clear. He wanted her to leave her undeserving fiancé and come to him. The problem was that she was a loyal woman, and her promise meant something special to her. How could she walk away from the man who had relocated to be with her and had put a ring on her finger?

André had asked, “Does he crave you when you’re gone or feel complete when you’re with him?”

Do I crave Jarrod? Crave him the way I’m craving André right now? Diana silently asked herself those more relevant questions, instantly knowing she didn’t like the truth.

With the passionate and determined man pressing her—how long could she resist?

Coming Later this Year . . . The Best Laid Plans

I'm doing research on the plight of black veterans after World War I and gaining a greater appreciation for the secrecy in the South. My book about the reason my great grandfather, William Thomas, deserted and stayed hidden, and why our family fiercely protected the secret until nearly 20 years after his death, is going to have as much historical accuracy as possible. Consider the high rate of lynchings and other violence directed at black men, veterans who had proven their worth but returned to a country ruled by Jim Crow laws and white supremist views. Consider the importance of hiding the truth and the impact on families. Consider how never being free from bigotry and oppression has worked to suppress black pride and vital storytelling. Yes, I'm writing a romance, but it will be so much more.

The Best Laid Plans will be the book title, and it's coming in December as a gift to honor my family.

Everything was going Angela’s way. This beautiful, sassy, college-educated woman couldn’t have been happier. As the co-owner of a travel agency that had just landed a dream contract to create fantasy packages for a restaurant and jazz club.

Being the Entertainment Manager at the restaurant his uncle owned hadn’t been part of Chris’ original plans, but reuniting with Angela was more important than anything. Now, this sexy trumpet player needed to convince his college sweetheart that second chances were worth taking and that the music they’d once made together was only the opening chord.

First, she’d have to forgive him for breaking her heart in college. And for tricking her into signing the contract with his uncle’s restaurant without knowing about Chris’ involvement. Of course, that would only happen after he let her know he was back in town.

It was impossible for Angie to walk away from the contract.

But that didn’t mean Chris’ plan—or his heart—was as unbreakable

Falling in love started with a Caramel Caress. Well, that’s actually the name of a hot beverage.

Caramel flavored coffee and romance will warm you up, right?

Sherry was spending a lot of time hanging out at Omarion's cafe, checking out the handsome brother who owned the neighborhood coffee shop, and slowly falling for his charming smile and the special twist he added to those hot drinks. When he created a spicy beverage and named it after her, he sent a very clear message that the attraction was mutual . . . but not everyone was happy about that. It seemed that not all shades of brown mixed quite so easily in this multicultural romance.

Enjoy this light-hearted love story in a sweet novella.

CONTRACTUAL: When Law Meets Love  http://bit.ly/2btcontractual

Marie was totally serious about negotiating the conception of her baby. She was a lawyer; that’s what she did best.

Control the arrangement.

Eliminate the complications.

Dictate the terms upfront.

Greg hadn’t given much thought to having children, but he found Marie’s proposal even more attractive than the gorgeous attorney who he’d always admired. Sexy. Brilliant. Compassionate. Hard-working and established in the legal profession. She could understand him. Yeah . . . the perfect woman.

Be the father of her child? Sure, why not?

Oh, Marie might have drafted a pretty solid contract, but Greg was a different kind of lawyer . . . one who understood that not every contingency could be anticipated and he could figure out how to twist a few of the established terms. Every point could be renegotiated, in his eyes.

Walk away after the baby was born? Greg might have signed on the dotted line, but he definitely had a different ultimate goal from the very beginning. All he had to do was beat this brilliant lawyer at her own game and get her heart to carry more weight than the papers they’d signed.

But, when it came to love, success still might boil down to who was the better litigator.

Recognition for a Great Beginning

Time for Tenderness was the first full-length novel I wrote, even though it wasn't the first book that I published. So, when I visited my Twitter account on January 2nd, and saw that it was selected as the Book of the Week by ChatEBooks, the honor was a beautiful surprise and a wonderful beginning to this new year.

One goal of mine for 2017 is to enter my works into contests and hopefully win recognition, and here the dream was coming true all on its own. I want to be able to slap the label of "award winning author" on my promotional material. Of course, I could already do that because the Dream Catcher Series gained me the Thriller & Suspense Author of the Year Award in 2015 from AuthorClassifieds.com, and the series was recommended by USAToday blogger for Halloween 2015, but I want more.

While I am very honored by those early notices, I guess my current challenge is to claim a recognition that's firmly for the romance genre or one of its definite sub-genres. Book of the Week is a move in the right direction. I'm certainly motivated and optimistic! Get ready for quite a lot in 2017 because I have a whole bunch of lovely things planned for you!

You'll be Dazzled in 2017 by The House of Bejeweled Series!

Happy New Year! I'm really excited that my first post of 2017 is announcing the release of a wonderful book by another amazingly talented African-American author. Chelle Ramsey just keeps bringing the successes with the House of Bejeweled series, so check these novels out!

Bejeweled: Standing Strong, the fourth book in the series, will release on January 14th, and there will be a huge party on Facebook! Look for the invitation on my pages and plan to attend because Chelle promises a great time. She knows how to host an online event where there will be games, prizes, and other authors for you to meet. Now, let's learn a little about the Bejeweled books.

Book Blurb:

Olivia has overcome many challenges and disappointments in her life. Yet, when faced with an unexpected death of a family member, and witnessing the murder of someone she cares for, she isn’t sure she can survive. The losses incurred on this journey may cause her to pay the ultimate sacrifice.

The return of Black and Kianna means the puzzle pieces of Angel’s life are finally locking into place. The picture is different than she envisioned. Angel must determine if uncovering the truth of their past, is worth the sacrifice of her new relationship.
Kianna’s played dirty in the past, but this time the fight is deadly. She’s willing to go all in to expose the truth, which will cause everyone in the game to ante up. Will her sacrifice be more than she bargained for?

Black’s gambled several times in the past, but this time the stakes are high. With his life and those of his family serving as the bargaining chips, it isn’t that easy to fold. To protect those he loves the most, he may have to sacrifice his own life to save theirs.

Angel. Kianna. Black. In the end everyone must bear their cross. And the truth is so explosive, the House will never be the same. One will stand strong and walk away. One will stand strong and make the ultimate sacrifice. And one will stand strong and won’t survive!

Please enjoy this excerpt:

It was always so much easier to give it when it didn’t impact you directly. The benefit of the doubt. That’s what Olivia was thinking about. There were so many things that needed her attention at the moment, but she couldn’t move past the funeral. Bethany’s funeral had been explosive in more ways than one. She had been strong through it all, even when Anne, Bethany’s mother, had announced in front of just over a hundred strangers that Raymond had been trying to re-ignite his marriage to Bethany and had even shared her bed after marrying Olivia.

A weaker woman would have broken. A weaker woman would not have walked out of the funeral home with her head held high. A weaker woman would not have held her composure on the ride back to the hotel with her husband and step-children, or on the return flight home. But Olivia was anything but weak. Her strength and faith in God kept her through it all…until they returned home.

Throughout it all, Raymond had attempted to explain it. She told him in no uncertain terms she didn’t want to discuss it until they returned home.

They had arrived back at their house just after midnight on Sunday. She pretended to be asleep even when Raymond reached for her in bed. She had pulled away and spent the remainder of the night with questions floating in her head. She would have her say. But not in front of the children. So the next day when her father asked if he could take the children for ice cream, she jumped at the opportunity.

“Baby, I’m telling you, Anne is evil. She twisted everything into something ugly. It never happened like she said,” Raymond pleaded, as he sat on the bed bench with his hands clasped between his knees.

Olivia sat at her dressing table with her back to her husband.

“Why would she lie about something like that, Ray?”

“Because she’s hateful. She wants to see me unhappy and miserable,” Raymond reasoned.

“But why, Ray? What have you done to her that would make her so angry she would tell such vile lies?” Olivia asked. She still refused to turn around and face him.

“I don’t know, baby. She’s angry because her daughter died, and she’s always hated me. The woman is prejudiced. I mean, don’t get me wrong, she loves black people as long as we’re not mixing with her precious blue blood. But once you cross that line you’re an enemy for life,” Raymond clarified.

“Raymond, this is the worst excuse I’ve ever heard. Tell me,” she said, turning around in her chair and facing her husband for the first time. “Did you tell Bethany you wanted to work on your marriage?”

“No!” Raymond adamantly denied.

“Did you ever want to work on your marriage?” Olivia interrogated.

“No, baby. At least not once I decided to divorce her. By the time you and I got together, I had left all of that behind me,” he explained.

Olivia could see the pain in his eyes, but she couldn’t help but think of all the return trips he made to Boston in the beginning of their marriage. Many of those trips had resulted in an argument between her and her husband.

“She said there were times you were staying up there and the kids were with her and Cal. What about that, Ray? How do you explain that?” she asked, pursing her lips.

“Beth knew I was coming to see the kids, but hadn’t told them. On a couple of occasions they asked if they could spend the night with their grandparents. And she took them, never telling them I was on the way into town. I usually didn’t arrive until that night some time, and it would be too late to get them by then. So I would have to wait until the next day to pick them up,” he explained. Raymond stood up and began crossing the room to his wife.

Olivia held up her hand to stop him in his path.

“Did you ever sleep in the same bed as her, Raymond?” Olivia asked. Her heart fell when her husband lowered his head. “Ray-did-you-ever-sleep-in-the-same-bed-with-Beth?” Olivia asked in a slow, drawn-out tone.

He held his head up and looked her in the eyes. “Yes, but—”

“Get the hell out of my home! Now!” she screamed, when it took a moment for him to take in what she was saying. “Get out!”

She fast-walked to the closet and began pulling his clothes out and throwing them at him.

“Ivy…baby, listen!” Raymond pleaded, pulling on her arm.

“Raymond, don’t you dare touch me! Get the hell out, now!” she growled.

He began picking up his items from the floor and left the home before the kids returned.

All alone in her bedroom, she screamed until she grew hoarse, and then she lay down and wept until she fell asleep.
