NEW LOOK COMING SOON!

I've decided to update the appearance and structure of this site with plans to relaunch for my author-anniversary in May 2022. Please bear with me, as I'm not normally a tech person. 😉

YOU Can Help! My Kindle Vella serial needs support.

Are you familiar with reading serials? They upload one episode at a time, and you have opportunities to "like" it, "fave" it, follow the story, give it a crown, and leave a review. Can you please help get those numbers up for my romantic-suspense, Duty to Love? Authors earn bonuses based on the reactions of readers. YOU can help me get paid while paying nothing to read this story! Well, maybe the final episode will cost a small amount, but I promise it will be worth it.

Here's an excerpt from Episode 3:

Vanessa’s fingers traced absently over Jada’s face on the missing person’s flyer as she listened to Chaz recap what he’d uncovered. Much of it was what Marcy had stated. The new piece was that several missing young women had been reported as visiting the same area mall within a few days of their disappearances. The FBI’s task force included an OHP officer who was friends with Chaz, and he’d stated that the investigation was focusing on locating the network of criminals above recovering the abductees. Vanessa understood what that meant: the unofficial law enforcement belief was that the females weren’t recoverable, that they’d probably been moved out of the area soon after disappearing, and the best priority was tracking down the human traffickers and putting an end to their operation. Preventing future abductions was more important than rescuing those who’d already been taken. Concurrent with the task force’s objectives, each local police jurisdiction was expected to purse the individual missing person’s cases according to their protocols and elevate any new information to the FBI for determination of its usefulness.

In other words, Cincinnati police would continue to hold the primary responsibility for locating Jada and the task force—FBI, Ohio BCI, Ohio Highway Patrol, and assigned police department personnel—would try to cripple the higher-level criminals responsible. That wasn’t good enough. They needed to find Jada, and they needed to do it quickly. Her wellbeing wasn’t simply incidental to the larger investigation. Marcy needed her only child back. And Vanessa needed to do whatever it took to help that happen.

“I want to go undercover,” came out of her mouth without a second thought.

“And do what?” Steve asked with narrow eyes.

“Under who?” Chaz asked at the same time.

“I don’t know,” she snapped. “But I can’t sit back and do nothing while the task force focuses on everything but bringing home Jada and any other missing girls!” She stood and leaned her balled fists on the table. “I need to do this and you both know I’m good undercover. We know this racist-ass city, like the majority of white-run metropolises in this nation, isn’t going to put a ton of resources into locating one Black female out of the many who’ve gone missing in the past few years.”

“And we’ll help you,” Chaz declared calmly.

Suspense and Sex Coming to KINDLE VELLA!

Have you joined the fun in reading stories released one episode at a time? Kindle Vella is a great way to test drive a story, meet new authors, and look forward to what's next with characters you can grow to love. Episodes are perfect for people who like to read during their lunch breaks or to wrap up the day but who don't have a lot of time. The stopping point is already decided for you.

In a couple of weeks, I'll be releasing my first Kindle Vella project. Get ready for suspense, romance, office conflicts, and personal growth from characters you met in the Dream Catcher Series. FBI Special Agents Vanessa Long and Steve McDaniels will finally get their love story! But can they make a relationship work when they have different work personas and personal goals?

Blurb:

Love dominates when two strong-willed FBI agents face power struggles on the job. Feeling undermined and diminished by racism and sexism, Vanessa needs the support of her man more than ever. Steve's legendary loyalty to the FBI conflicts with a consuming need to protect and encourage the woman who holds his heart. Can they commit to each other, focus on the growing human trafficking crisis in their state, and survive the clashes between personal goals, bureaucracy, and office politics?

Are You Ready for a New Series?

I spent 2019 and half of 2021 writing a "nontraditional" romance series under my pen name. Now it's time to return to creating contemporary, African American romances! A group of urban career women on their annual vacation find surprising love matches with the military veterans who run a secluded ranch. They're going to explore much more than opportunities for peace and balance through fresh air, isolation, exercise, and country chores.

Look for the Unexpected Love Series in 2022, with the standalone books releasing 4 to 6 weeks apart.

Where to Glimpse Josie Carver's Projects

As some of you know, I also write under a pen name. Josie Carver crafts non-traditional love stories that might be a bit edgy but still have complex characters and happy endings. Currently, Josie is working on a series titled Kendra's Conflict and posting excerpts in advance of the June 6th release of the first book. Those excerpts posted online will also appear on the Josie Carver Fan-Me-Now website under a special tab and in the newsletter. However, only those two places will include uncensored sneak peeks that cannot be posted on social media sites. If you're interested in viewing the tame and explicit tidbits, here are the links.

New Year, New Logo, and New Ideas

Hello Readers!

I've got a lot of ideas for 2020 and decided to kick everything off with a new look.
How do you like the new logo?

While I'm not currently working on a book to release this year under my name, I am writing a trilogy under my pen name, Josie Carver. If you're among my more adventurous readers, the edgy Kendra's Conflict series might be enjoyable. The first book is scheduled for release in June 2020. It isn't being published under my name because the theme is decidedly non-traditional.

No, this series isn't erotica -- which is what the Josie Carver pen name was created to explore -- but the subject of polyamory might not be palatable for some of my readers who only enjoy traditionally monogamous relationships. So, that's why I decided to write it under the pen name. I do have some traditional projects on the back burner. If all goes well, at least one of them will get published before the end of the year. I'm certainly hopeful that the creative juices will flow freely and this will be a prolific year. For now, I'm back to working on Kendra's story.

In the meantime, be sure you've checked my catalog and haven't missed any of the novels and novellas already available. Just go to my Amazon page to get started.

As always, thanks for your support!

Getting Back on Track

Hi Everyone!

Yeah, I've been missing in action for quite a while. Life and a few health issues got in the way. But, I'm back and hopefully ready to write.

To get started, I'm doing NaNoWriMo again. If  you've never heard of that, it's National Novel Writing Month. The challenge is to write a 50,000-word novel during the 30 days of November. This book is going to be written under my erotica pen name, so unfortunately that's not exciting news for fans of my contemporary romances. The great thing though, is that I'm writing again and do have plans to release books under both author names in 2020.

Well, wish me luck. Drop me a message at btromancewriter@gmail.com or on Facebook if you have a minute. Take care and thank you for remaining my loyal readers! I love each of you.

SNEAK PEEK at Kendra's Conflict

Somehow, the idea of a three-way relationship stuck in my head and bounced around for several months. I'm not just talking about wanting to write a menage scene, I'm talking about wanting to write a full-blown love story where three people are equally committed to preserving the relationship. This has nothing to do with fidelity versus loyalty, although those topics are discussed. This isn't an open relationship and there isn't any cheating in the traditional understanding of those terms. This story line deals with the many ways that people are connected and how we handle the fact that some connections may not follow conventional definitions.

Follow along as Alonzo, Kendra, and Carlos explore their emotions and reasons for the choices they make and the paths they ultimately take. Will they try the unconventional? How will their family and friends respond? What will their journey look like, and what will it uncover about each of them?

Kendra's Conflict is developing into a duet, with the first book scheduled for publication in late spring 2019. Here is an unedited snippet from the portion written during NaNoWriMo. Stay tuned for more excerpts in the coming months!

SNEAK PEEK

She rested her lips against his throat. Her breasts pressed into his hard chest. “Do you remember the conversation we had about me sending the wrong signals?”

“Yes.” His hands moved lower, off the top of her hips and clearly onto the curve of her ass. He pulled her against what she could tell was a growing erection. “I remember saying that you aren’t responsible for my feelings. However, you might be responsible for this boner.”

They both laughed. But Carlos didn’t miss a step as he wickedly rolled his hips against hers while appearing to others to just be dancing. It caused Kendra to nearly falter before she recovered her rhythm.

“As I was saying,” Kendra continued, “I think it’s the wrong signal for me to let you see how you affect me when there’s no way to do anything about it.”

“Because it would betray Alonzo?”

“Yes.”

“There’s a lot that wouldn’t betray him, that would actually fall within what he wants for you.” Carlos leaned back slightly. “For example, he doesn’t mind if I kiss you.”

Kendra thought about that for a moment.

“No, I guess he doesn’t.”

“He doesn’t mind if I hug you or put my hands all over you—like I’m doing right now. If he did, he’d be out of that booth in a heartbeat.”

Again, Kendra was silent.

“If we can behave like this in front of him, are we betraying him if we behave this way when he’s out of town?”

“I suppose not,” she said and was surprised at how relieved she felt.

“So, you see, there are no wrong signals. We just have to know how far is too far.” He kissed the side of her face.” The song ended, and he took her hand to lead her back to the booth.

I Won NaNoWriMo!

For those of you who don't know, NaNoWriMo is National Novel Writing Month. The month of November is set aside for a 30-day challenge to write a 50,000-word novel.

#NaNoWriMo2018 is officially over. This was my first year participating and I exceeded my personal expectations in addition to exceeding the contest goals. However, the book is nowhere close to being finished! Kendra's Conflict will be a duet at the very least. I'm still trying to wrap my head around that because a book has never flowed quite like this one. I optimistically anticipate being able to release both books within the first half of 2019. While this is very much a love story, it's also quite erotic, so will it be released under my name or my pen name? We'll have to wait and see. Stay tuned ...

My Newest Novella

While I will be working on my next novel during NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month), I'm happy to offer this 99 cents novella in the meantime. With a release date of November 7, 2018, you don't have long to wait, but you can Pre-Order at
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07JNBYV4K.

Here's the blurb:

Sometimes the biggest storms in life are the ones raging inside—the turmoil that shapes us, haunts us, and has the power to destroy us.

Victoria is half a continent away from her family, but even that isn’t enough to make her free. Tortured by their influence and a lifetime of self-doubt, she feels trapped and unable to commit to the one man who seems perfect.

Matt doesn’t know everything that haunts Victoria, but none of that matters to him. Believing that patience and love can get them through anything, he is determined to be the rock in the midst of her uncertainty. Neither of them can anticipate how crucial that will be.

Looking Forward ...

Hello Everyone!

I'd like to start off by apologizing for being away from this page for so long. Life issues simply got in the way of my being able to write, promote, and stay on top of all of the related requirements. But, I'm happy to say that those issues are resolving themselves and I'm getting back into the literary swing.

I'm working on two new projects! Although I can't give any details at this point, it really brings me joy to let you know that  you can expect my next romance novel in early 2019. Stay tuned!

As It Should Be (blurb)

When Jacqueline walked out of the apartment she shared with Michael, it was because she was ready for a family and he wasn’t. Neither of them knew she was pregnant, but it wouldn’t have made a difference to her. Michael had made it clear that he wasn’t going to put anything or anyone ahead of building his real estate business.

Now, three years later, she’s back at the front door with twins and asking a favor. Marquia and Michael Jr. are the spitting image of their father—and they need him.

Will he help them? Can Jacqui afford the price he’s going to demand? Will everything work out the way it should? Or will she leave once again broken-hearted?

A Home for Her Heart (blurb)

Trey had been watching Regina for a long time, and he wanted her with every passing day that they worked together. But he’d also seen the tell-tale signs that something was off about her relationship with the boyfriend who often picked her up from work or visited in the office. The man was possessive, but not in a good way. There was abuse, of that Trey was certain.

When Gina didn’t show up for work, Trey knew something was wrong. He got her address from the personnel file and arrived at her house to find her battered and bruised and distraught. Michael, her abusive live-in boyfriend, had beaten her and taken their child.

Getting the baby back was only the first step to rescuing Gina from an abusive relationship. Convincing her that she was lovely and loveable would take slightly more effort. But Trey was convinced that he could do it—after all he was in love with her and willing to try anything to make her happy.

Follow this couple as they deal with her demons, her ex-boyfriend, and a growing love that was bound to transform both of their lives.
