Where to Glimpse Josie Carver's Projects

As some of you know, I also write under a pen name. Josie Carver crafts non-traditional love stories that might be a bit edgy but still have complex characters and happy endings. Currently, Josie is working on a series titled Kendra's Conflict and posting excerpts in advance of the June 6th release of the first book. Those excerpts posted online will also appear on the Josie Carver Fan-Me-Now website under a special tab and in the newsletter. However, only those two places will include uncensored sneak peeks that cannot be posted on social media sites. If you're interested in viewing the tame and explicit tidbits, here are the links.

New Year, New Logo, and New Ideas

Hello Readers!

I've got a lot of ideas for 2020 and decided to kick everything off with a new look.
How do you like the new logo?

While I'm not currently working on a book to release this year under my name, I am writing a trilogy under my pen name, Josie Carver. If you're among my more adventurous readers, the edgy Kendra's Conflict series might be enjoyable. The first book is scheduled for release in June 2020. It isn't being published under my name because the theme is decidedly non-traditional.

No, this series isn't erotica -- which is what the Josie Carver pen name was created to explore -- but the subject of polyamory might not be palatable for some of my readers who only enjoy traditionally monogamous relationships. So, that's why I decided to write it under the pen name. I do have some traditional projects on the back burner. If all goes well, at least one of them will get published before the end of the year. I'm certainly hopeful that the creative juices will flow freely and this will be a prolific year. For now, I'm back to working on Kendra's story.

In the meantime, be sure you've checked my catalog and haven't missed any of the novels and novellas already available. Just go to my Amazon page to get started.

As always, thanks for your support!

Getting Back on Track

Hi Everyone!

Yeah, I've been missing in action for quite a while. Life and a few health issues got in the way. But, I'm back and hopefully ready to write.

To get started, I'm doing NaNoWriMo again. If  you've never heard of that, it's National Novel Writing Month. The challenge is to write a 50,000-word novel during the 30 days of November. This book is going to be written under my erotica pen name, so unfortunately that's not exciting news for fans of my contemporary romances. The great thing though, is that I'm writing again and do have plans to release books under both author names in 2020.

Well, wish me luck. Drop me a message at btromancewriter@gmail.com or on Facebook if you have a minute. Take care and thank you for remaining my loyal readers! I love each of you.

SNEAK PEEK at Kendra's Conflict

Somehow, the idea of a three-way relationship stuck in my head and bounced around for several months. I'm not just talking about wanting to write a menage scene, I'm talking about wanting to write a full-blown love story where three people are equally committed to preserving the relationship. This has nothing to do with fidelity versus loyalty, although those topics are discussed. This isn't an open relationship and there isn't any cheating in the traditional understanding of those terms. This story line deals with the many ways that people are connected and how we handle the fact that some connections may not follow conventional definitions.

Follow along as Alonzo, Kendra, and Carlos explore their emotions and reasons for the choices they make and the paths they ultimately take. Will they try the unconventional? How will their family and friends respond? What will their journey look like, and what will it uncover about each of them?

Kendra's Conflict is developing into a duet, with the first book scheduled for publication in late spring 2019. Here is an unedited snippet from the portion written during NaNoWriMo. Stay tuned for more excerpts in the coming months!

SNEAK PEEK

She rested her lips against his throat. Her breasts pressed into his hard chest. “Do you remember the conversation we had about me sending the wrong signals?”

“Yes.” His hands moved lower, off the top of her hips and clearly onto the curve of her ass. He pulled her against what she could tell was a growing erection. “I remember saying that you aren’t responsible for my feelings. However, you might be responsible for this boner.”

They both laughed. But Carlos didn’t miss a step as he wickedly rolled his hips against hers while appearing to others to just be dancing. It caused Kendra to nearly falter before she recovered her rhythm.

“As I was saying,” Kendra continued, “I think it’s the wrong signal for me to let you see how you affect me when there’s no way to do anything about it.”

“Because it would betray Alonzo?”

“Yes.”

“There’s a lot that wouldn’t betray him, that would actually fall within what he wants for you.” Carlos leaned back slightly. “For example, he doesn’t mind if I kiss you.”

Kendra thought about that for a moment.

“No, I guess he doesn’t.”

“He doesn’t mind if I hug you or put my hands all over you—like I’m doing right now. If he did, he’d be out of that booth in a heartbeat.”

Again, Kendra was silent.

“If we can behave like this in front of him, are we betraying him if we behave this way when he’s out of town?”

“I suppose not,” she said and was surprised at how relieved she felt.

“So, you see, there are no wrong signals. We just have to know how far is too far.” He kissed the side of her face.” The song ended, and he took her hand to lead her back to the booth.

I Won NaNoWriMo!

For those of you who don't know, NaNoWriMo is National Novel Writing Month. The month of November is set aside for a 30-day challenge to write a 50,000-word novel.

#NaNoWriMo2018 is officially over. This was my first year participating and I exceeded my personal expectations in addition to exceeding the contest goals. However, the book is nowhere close to being finished! Kendra's Conflict will be a duet at the very least. I'm still trying to wrap my head around that because a book has never flowed quite like this one. I optimistically anticipate being able to release both books within the first half of 2019. While this is very much a love story, it's also quite erotic, so will it be released under my name or my pen name? We'll have to wait and see. Stay tuned ...

My Newest Novella

While I will be working on my next novel during NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month), I'm happy to offer this 99 cents novella in the meantime. With a release date of November 7, 2018, you don't have long to wait, but you can Pre-Order at
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07JNBYV4K.

Here's the blurb:

Sometimes the biggest storms in life are the ones raging inside—the turmoil that shapes us, haunts us, and has the power to destroy us.

Victoria is half a continent away from her family, but even that isn’t enough to make her free. Tortured by their influence and a lifetime of self-doubt, she feels trapped and unable to commit to the one man who seems perfect.

Matt doesn’t know everything that haunts Victoria, but none of that matters to him. Believing that patience and love can get them through anything, he is determined to be the rock in the midst of her uncertainty. Neither of them can anticipate how crucial that will be.

Looking Forward ...

Hello Everyone!

I'd like to start off by apologizing for being away from this page for so long. Life issues simply got in the way of my being able to write, promote, and stay on top of all of the related requirements. But, I'm happy to say that those issues are resolving themselves and I'm getting back into the literary swing.

I'm working on two new projects! Although I can't give any details at this point, it really brings me joy to let you know that  you can expect my next romance novel in early 2019. Stay tuned!

As It Should Be (blurb)

When Jacqueline walked out of the apartment she shared with Michael, it was because she was ready for a family and he wasn’t. Neither of them knew she was pregnant, but it wouldn’t have made a difference to her. Michael had made it clear that he wasn’t going to put anything or anyone ahead of building his real estate business.

Now, three years later, she’s back at the front door with twins and asking a favor. Marquia and Michael Jr. are the spitting image of their father—and they need him.

Will he help them? Can Jacqui afford the price he’s going to demand? Will everything work out the way it should? Or will she leave once again broken-hearted?

A Home for Her Heart (blurb)

Trey had been watching Regina for a long time, and he wanted her with every passing day that they worked together. But he’d also seen the tell-tale signs that something was off about her relationship with the boyfriend who often picked her up from work or visited in the office. The man was possessive, but not in a good way. There was abuse, of that Trey was certain.

When Gina didn’t show up for work, Trey knew something was wrong. He got her address from the personnel file and arrived at her house to find her battered and bruised and distraught. Michael, her abusive live-in boyfriend, had beaten her and taken their child.

Getting the baby back was only the first step to rescuing Gina from an abusive relationship. Convincing her that she was lovely and loveable would take slightly more effort. But Trey was convinced that he could do it—after all he was in love with her and willing to try anything to make her happy.

Follow this couple as they deal with her demons, her ex-boyfriend, and a growing love that was bound to transform both of their lives.

Book blurb:

Ramona’s life was about to change. Not only was she going on a dream vacation instead of to a work-related conference as the assistant to her company’s Chief Financial Officer, she was unknowingly going to be met there by a man she’s been fantasizing about for years. Except for the fact that her boss has kept his feelings a secret and coordinated this ruse as a way of getting them alone, what could possibly go wrong?

Will this beautiful, cinnamon-skinned, natural hair wearing assistant be willing to start a secret affair with her sandy-haired, hazel eyed, white boss? The no-fraternizing regulations make the idea risky enough without adding the interracial component to complicate the potential relationship. What will people think if they find out—that she slept her way into the position she is more than qualified to hold? It wouldn’t be the first time an attractive black woman has been viewed that way.

Caleb has been in love with Ramona for as long as she has been secretly dreaming about him. He’s guessed her feelings without revealing his, but all the cards are about to be put on the table. He’ll gamble that they’ll have this opportunity to take their working relationship to an intimate level.

But will he win?

It didn’t take Diana Thomas long to understand that the sexy, wealthy, and handsome businessman André Markinson wasn’t giving any consideration to the engagement ring on her left hand. He wanted her and was determined to win her affection. While she denied their attraction and was loyal to her fiancé, she couldn’t escape the truth for very long.

On her 30th birthday—that her fiancé totally forgot about—André surprised her with a party in her honor and made his intentions perfectly clear. He wanted her to leave her undeserving fiancé and come to him. The problem was that she was a loyal woman, and her promise meant something special to her. How could she walk away from the man who had relocated to be with her and had put a ring on her finger?

André had asked, “Does he crave you when you’re gone or feel complete when you’re with him?”

Do I crave Jarrod? Crave him the way I’m craving André right now? Diana silently asked herself those more relevant questions, instantly knowing she didn’t like the truth.

With the passionate and determined man pressing her—how long could she resist?

Coming Later this Year . . . The Best Laid Plans

I'm doing research on the plight of black veterans after World War I and gaining a greater appreciation for the secrecy in the South. My book about the reason my great grandfather, William Thomas, deserted and stayed hidden, and why our family fiercely protected the secret until nearly 20 years after his death, is going to have as much historical accuracy as possible. Consider the high rate of lynchings and other violence directed at black men, veterans who had proven their worth but returned to a country ruled by Jim Crow laws and white supremist views. Consider the importance of hiding the truth and the impact on families. Consider how never being free from bigotry and oppression has worked to suppress black pride and vital storytelling. Yes, I'm writing a romance, but it will be so much more.

The Best Laid Plans will be the book title, and it's coming in December as a gift to honor my family.

Everything was going Angela’s way. This beautiful, sassy, college-educated woman couldn’t have been happier. As the co-owner of a travel agency that had just landed a dream contract to create fantasy packages for a restaurant and jazz club.

Being the Entertainment Manager at the restaurant his uncle owned hadn’t been part of Chris’ original plans, but reuniting with Angela was more important than anything. Now, this sexy trumpet player needed to convince his college sweetheart that second chances were worth taking and that the music they’d once made together was only the opening chord.

First, she’d have to forgive him for breaking her heart in college. And for tricking her into signing the contract with his uncle’s restaurant without knowing about Chris’ involvement. Of course, that would only happen after he let her know he was back in town.

It was impossible for Angie to walk away from the contract.

But that didn’t mean Chris’ plan—or his heart—was as unbreakable

CAFÉ MOCHA  http://bit.ly/2btcafemocha

Falling in love started with a Caramel Caress. Well, that’s actually the name of a hot beverage.

Caramel flavored coffee and romance will warm you up, right?

Sherry was spending a lot of time hanging out at Omarion's cafe, checking out the handsome brother who owned the neighborhood coffee shop, and slowly falling for his charming smile and the special twist he added to those hot drinks. When he created a spicy beverage and named it after her, he sent a very clear message that the attraction was mutual . . . but not everyone was happy about that. It seemed that not all shades of brown mixed quite so easily in this multicultural romance.

Enjoy this light-hearted love story in a sweet novella.

CONTRACTUAL: When Law Meets Love  http://bit.ly/2btcontractual

Marie was totally serious about negotiating the conception of her baby. She was a lawyer; that’s what she did best.

Control the arrangement.

Eliminate the complications.

Dictate the terms upfront.

Greg hadn’t given much thought to having children, but he found Marie’s proposal even more attractive than the gorgeous attorney who he’d always admired. Sexy. Brilliant. Compassionate. Hard-working and established in the legal profession. She could understand him. Yeah . . . the perfect woman.

Be the father of her child? Sure, why not?

Oh, Marie might have drafted a pretty solid contract, but Greg was a different kind of lawyer . . . one who understood that not every contingency could be anticipated and he could figure out how to twist a few of the established terms. Every point could be renegotiated, in his eyes.

Walk away after the baby was born? Greg might have signed on the dotted line, but he definitely had a different ultimate goal from the very beginning. All he had to do was beat this brilliant lawyer at her own game and get her heart to carry more weight than the papers they’d signed.

But, when it came to love, success still might boil down to who was the better litigator.

There's more to look forward to . . .

I'll be announcing a big giveaway exclusively for people who belong to Share the Love Book Club, Building Relationships Online Book Club, and follow me on my Facebook author page. So, please make sure you don't miss out on a great opportunity!

Randomly throughout the month, I'll post a 24-hour trivia contest. Pay attention because you'll like the prizes!

Additionally, the Award-Winning Dream Catcher Series is going back on sale as a box set for the month of February only. The special price will be like getting a book free, so look for that deal and spread the word!

If you haven't done so already, please go to the main page and sign up for my newsletter. I never share your information and I don't send out tons of mailings -- but with 10 books scheduled to be released this year, don't you want to keep updated on what's going on?

Recognition for a Great Beginning

Time for Tenderness was the first full-length novel I wrote, even though it wasn't the first book that I published. So, when I visited my Twitter account on January 2nd, and saw that it was selected as the Book of the Week by ChatEBooks, the honor was a beautiful surprise and a wonderful beginning to this new year.

One goal of mine for 2017 is to enter my works into contests and hopefully win recognition, and here the dream was coming true all on its own. I want to be able to slap the label of "award winning author" on my promotional material. Of course, I could already do that because the Dream Catcher Series gained me the Thriller & Suspense Author of the Year Award in 2015 from AuthorClassifieds.com, and the series was recommended by USAToday blogger for Halloween 2015, but I want more.

While I am very honored by those early notices, I guess my current challenge is to claim a recognition that's firmly for the romance genre or one of its definite sub-genres. Book of the Week is a move in the right direction. I'm certainly motivated and optimistic! Get ready for quite a lot in 2017 because I have a whole bunch of lovely things planned for you!
